Town of Penfield Will Hold Hearings on Two New Development Proposals

There are two new projects of public interest going before the Planning Board for sketch plan review next Thursday, March 12, 2026. Both are substantial projects within the Town of Penfield's Mixed Use District along the Rt. 250 corridor (Fairport Nine Mile Point Rd) and may be of particular interest to town residents.

Commercial Redevelopment with Apartments

The first is a proposal by Penfield NY Partners for a development at 1801 Fairport Nine Mile Point Rd. This development includes a commercial space that would mix new construction with renovation of existing structures from the former Grossman's Nursery. It also includes a 4-story residential apartment building. Full details are available here: https://www.penfieldny.gov/detail_T12_R201.php#outer-1607

Wickham Farms Pavilion

The second proposal is by Wickham Farms for a barn-themed pavilion within the central portion of their agribusiness regreation area. Full details are available here: https://www.penfieldny.gov/detail_T12_R815.php#outer-7642sub-7643

Get Involved!

The sketch plan review process is an essential vehicle for public and governmental feedback to developers during an early phase of a project. It is often the first public presentation of a development proposal, where impacts on the tax base, demand for public services, infrastructure, and community character should all be considered and discussed. Residents who wish to voice their support for or opposition to a project, or who simply have questions for the developer, are all encouraged to participate during these public hearings.

Preserve Penfield encourages our neighbors to help make our community stronger by getting involved in this process. Public feedback is accepted in person during the March 12 Planning Board meeting (6:30 PM at the Penfield Town Hall). The meeting is also broadcast live through various means, available at https://www.penfieldny.gov/public_meeting/index.php or https://www.penfieldny.gov/index_tv.php. Lastly, feedback can be submitted in writing via the town Planning Department at planning@penfieldny.gov. When submitting a letter, we recommend making explicit reference to the project in question and requesting that your feedback be included as part of the formal record of the public hearing.
